Climate Science Alliance and NSF CAICE Team host Climate Kids SCOPE Field Trip

4th grade students from Pacific Beach Elementary attended a Climate Kids field trip to Scripps Institution of Oceanography. The group participated in a fun and engaging SCOPE-led tour of the Institution with a special presentation by our partners at the NSF Center for Aerosol Impacts on Chemistry of the Environment.

Scripps Community Outreach for Public Education (SCOPE), a partner of the Climate Science Alliance and Climate Kids, is a volunteer organization based at Scripps Institution of Oceanography composed of graduate students and researchers. SCOPE connects students to the science conducted at Scripps and provides a peek into what it's like to be a researcher. By partnering with the Climate Science Alliance, SCOPE helps host Climate Kids field trips at their campus facilities.

During their Climate Kids field trip, students learned about key climate messages and how climate is impacting our oceans and world. Students also received a private research tour of the Ellen Browning Scripps Memorial Pier and Hubbs Research Aquarium where they got to interact with specimens and see how a research lab operates.

In addition, students received a special presentation from our partners and scientists at the NSF Center for Aerosol Impacts on Chemistry of the Environment (CAICE). With hands on science demonstrations, students learned about the role aerosols are playing on our global climate systems and what they can do to help.

We are grateful for our continued partnership with NSF CAICE and the SCOPE Team. Through these field trips we are better able to connect students to climate themes and programming in a way that is exciting and inspires action.
